Found another London shot that I actually like, very much. In the background you see London City Hall, I think. It's one of the few shots on this blog where I really saw exactly how I wanted the picture before I took it. Otherwise it's usually more about taking a shot, looking at the picture, thinking a while, taking another shot, look at the camera again, and then give up ;) Fact is, I find it extremely hard to plan a shot on beforehand.
We did our first playing around with the MR camera today, and it was amazing. A magnet with the streth of three Tesla really changes your ideas of what's possible and what's not. To begin with, we tied a pair of scissors to a string and played around with it to get a sense of how strong the magnet really is. When the scissors were held in the middle of the magnet, it felt like lifting a couple of kilos (how much is that in pounds, three?). We also placed a non magnetic piece of aluminum and moved it around in the magnet, or rather tried to move it around. It was virtually impossible to twist or rotate it, because this induces currents in the piece of metal (if I've understood it right, but I'm not entirely sure of how the process works). Just as I suspected, this semester is going to be filled with quite a lot of work... but I enjoy it very much...
