Something has happened the last few days. The sun is warm again, and the days are getting longer and longer. For each day now and forward, the days are getting longer and longer. But, around the same time as it felt like the spring eventually arrived, the daily increase of the length of the days started to decrease. When I looked up the word for that day in my dictionary, I found "vernal equinox".
